A Call for Peace from the Israel-Gaza Border
#ListentoGrandma
Meet Roni Keidar, an Israeli peace activist and NATAN’s Volunteer Coordinator who lives in a village on the Israel-Gaza border.
UPDATE: A ceasefire went into effect on May 21st, but this message is still of crucial importance since we have yet to find a long-term solution, and the core problem has not been solved.
---------------------
As the rockets fly overhead, a message of peace and tolerance from the Israel-Gaza border
Roni Keidar lives on Israel’s southern border, 500 meters from the wall that separates Israel and Gaza, which means when the sirens go off she has less than 15 seconds to get to the shelter. For more than a week – from the moment Hamas started to bombard Israel - she hasn’t gone out of the house because she knows she is not young enough to run back in 15 seconds.
Roni is a unique person. Through years of volunteering and peace activities, she has managed to make many friends on the other side of the wall – in Gaza. (Yes, she calls them friends!)
We recorded this interview 5 minutes after the end of another alarm. Please, listen to Roni and her arguments.
A retired English teacher, Israeli, peace activist and NATAN Volunteer coordinator - Roni a person who knows what she is talking about – because she lives in the heart of the conflict, but absolutely and wholeheartedly refuses to hate.
“One day one of my grandchildren, 6 years old, was at home by herself, when there was an alert, and she ran into the shelter, because she knows that’s what she should do. Her mother found her crying, trembling all over. When she calmed down, she said – maybe the leaders should start listening to Grandma?”
“we’ve had war after war, retaliation after retaliation, but bottling up hate doesn’t help, let’s look for a solution”
WE WANT RONI’s VOICE TO BE HEARD BY AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AND ON BOTH SIDES OF THE WALL.
If you like what Roni says, please share with your friends and help us to spread this message of peace.
