“Volunteering is a purely humanitarian act that has nothing to do with race, color or religion. I am a human with energies and movement. I want to heal people and give them help and assistance and relieve them of their pain.”

Faida Sawaed lives near Haifa in the north of Israel, in the town of I’billin, where she was born and raised. I’billin is an Arab town with a mixed population of Muslims and Christians. She teaches physical education part-time for girls. She dances zumba, does yoga and gymnastics with them, and lectures them on important life lessons that help them through their teenage years. The other half of her time, she works as a nurse in the Akim Association for People with Special Needs in Haifa. Faida joined NATAN’s Ukrainian Refugee Relief Operation in Poland in July, where she was an integral part of the medical team with her nursing expertise.  She is a passionate and experienced volunteer as she has been involved in many different volunteer projects throughout her life.

in Faida Sawaed’s words:

I love volunteering, and I feel that volunteering is something that makes me happy. I feel that I am a giver. This is not the first time I volunteer. I always look for volunteering opportunities in areas where I can help. I feel that volunteering is a thing that requires courage. Also, I am an adventurer. I like to take risks. Every volunteering project is a new challenge for me.

I am a person who loves to help in all areas of life. That is why I chose nursing. You work in the field of humanity. Volunteering is a purely humanitarian act that has nothing to do with race, color or religion. I am a human with energies and movement. I want to heal people and give them help and assistance and relieve them of their pain.

My inspiration is my religion, the religion of coexistence. It teaches us that people on the face of the globe share humanity, and our religion calls for a common life without distinction, not for religion, race or color. This is one of the natural phenomena of humanity, and we should arm ourselves with humanity only.

 The Importance of Volunteering

The most beautiful thing I remember from the Ukrainian Relief Operation is a girl with beautiful features lying in room 15 staring at her toy with features of sadness and homelessness in her face. She has lost everything because of the war.

The reality is painful. Some people have become homeless, abandoned their dreams, property, and land, and fled to the unknown, a very frightening thing.

Unfortunately, war is nothing new. In wars, nations are displaced. It is good to see the amount of support and assistance that the world provided to these people, and NATAN in particular, gave the maximum that could be given in these circumstances.

To everyone who wants to join a volunteering project, I can advise: Being in the field of medicine or any other field of work that helps humanity, is a wonderful thing, as the ability to give becomes greater. Try to give as much as possible to people in need.
